Structurally, DNA is shaped like a double helix, often compared to a twisted ladder. Each “rung” of the ladder is made up of pairs of four chemical bases: adenine (A), thymine (T), cytosine (C), and guanine (G). These bases pair specifically — A with T, and C with G — forming the code that tells cells how to build proteins.
Potential Applications
Humans have about 3 billion DNA base pairs in each cell, packed into 23 pairs of chromosomes. Amazingly, more than 99.9% of this DNA is identical between all people. It's that tiny 0.1% difference that accounts for everything from eye color to inherited diseases.
